I enjoy working and collaborating with people who are also engaged and enthusiastic about protecting and conserving our natural resources for future generations.

My work is largely driven by the projects that federal agencies are undertaking or permitting.

Every project I work on adds some new dimension and challenge to my life. My experience and knowledge grow with each new project, and this allows me to share and teach others.

The sea is our last great frontier, and naval architects and marine engineers will lead the way.

Due to climate change and human impact on resources, we have been trying to ascertain if we can live sustainably in our world, whether it is through conserving water resources or protecting our coastal communities from increasing storm surges.

The best part of my job is developing creative solutions to ongoing infrastructure issues and providing significant, measurable benefits to our society.

Most of my time is spent developing computer models of aquaculture cages and learning how they will behave in the offshore environment.

In a typical month, I develop designs for a variety of coastal projects such as shore protection, dredging, habitat restoration and waterfront design for port infrastructure.

If you want to stay in the sciences and you want to have any control over the work you'll be performing, think about going all the way to a Ph.D.

I am a professor in earth science and ocean engineering and am the director of the Center for Coastal and Ocean Mapping and codirector of the NOAA/UNH Joint Hydrographic Center.

Get some hands-on experience at sea, such as a short internship or semester at sea, if at all possible.

Our planet is becoming more and more interconnected. This interconnectedness is leading to new challenges and opportunities in science.
